One thing I’ve learned as a parent is that it can get very busy around birthdays for your kids. I love planning birthday parties for my kids-coming up with an idea, planning the decorations and food to match the theme, it’s all fun. I’m a decorations kinda girl and always decorate the house to the nines for all the holidays, so planning birthday parties is right up my alley.
My son turns 4 on Monday and we just had his birthday party last weekend. I was surprised when I asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday. He wanted a “Finding Dory” party. To be fair he did have a few weeks in the summer where he was nonstop watching “Finding Dory”, but I was still surprised he wanted that to be his birthday theme.
In case your little one is interested in “Finding Dory” or “Finding Nemo”, let me tell you that there is NO decor anywhere for that theme! I actually asked if they had anything Nemo or Dory at Party City and the guy told me they don’t carry it anymore because it’s not popular. I knew it wasn’t that popular, but to not carry any supplies at all related to that? Seems a bit ridiculous to me.
Nevertheless I was feverishly putting together the party decor, favors, and food throughout last week. All of that planning and prepping was worth it, though. The party was a hit! My boy had so much fun and he loved my makeshift Dory decor! Take a look at some of the things I put together for him:
We had lots of water games outside as well. It went perfectly with the theme! My son had a blast and I pulled off a limited decoration party!
I always give my kids a choice on their birthday theme; it gives them a hand in the outcome. They’ve chosen some pretty good ones thus far. My son had an airplane themed first birthday, a Monsters, Inc second birthday, and an Avengers third birthday. My daughter had an Alice in “Onederland” party and a Minnie Mouse party. That gives me an idea for a future post. We’ve done lots of fun birthdays looking back!
I know it seems somewhat silly to others the amount of planning I put into birthdays but I want them to be special days for my kids, and I enjoy it! Trust me-I am nowhere near the league of Pinterest Moms out there, of whom, I bow down to because I could never plan the finite details like all of you do!
I do okay with my parties, and I hope my kids enjoy the days as much as I do! This year is a fun one for my son because he has been helping a lot more with decorations and party favors. He’s very into seeing it all come to life, and I love that. I may have passed my holiday junkie gene down to him!
