It’s been such a long time since I’ve blogged about anything. Life, work, kids has taken the majority of my time lately, but that got me thinking. With Mothers Day around the corner, what would our world be without Moms? As I sit here writing this blog thinking about why I haven’t blogged in so long, how the hell do I do what I do???
I’m not just saying this because I am a mom, but I genuinely believe that Moms make the world go round. I don’t even know how but they do. It’s like when you become a Mom, you just learn this whole other level of skill sets that just makes you so much more knowledgeable about the world; what to take when your sick, the variety of skin rashes and what they signify, the ability to single-handedly make 4 different dentist appointments around a two-sport practice schedule, how to referee any shouting match and diffuse a situation quickly, the list goes on.
I wish I could tell all of you what the secret is, but I honestly don’t even know myself. It’s something that just happens. It reminds me of that quote-“You don’t know how strong you are until you have to be.” That’s motherhood.
You can never imagine being the everything and doing the everything…until you are being it and doing it.
I was (and am) lucky to be surrounded by such amazing mothers in my life that I firmly believe have helped shaped not only the mother I am but the woman I am today.
I’ll just say it-I would not be who I am if it weren’t for my mom. She epitomizes what it means to be a mom.
Think Mary Poppins—-that’s her. My grandmothers, my aunts, my sister-in-law, my mother in-law-every single one of them are strong, successful women.
I have been blessed with a strong village of women to begin with, and I know some women aren’t so lucky, but guess what? They still are the everyone and everything to their kids. I know a lot of single moms who are working double-duty and kicking ass! Like I said, it’s just a skill set that you’re given when you become a mom.
This Mother’s Day, it’d be nice to be able to lounge on the hammock reading your book and drinking a cocktail, but let’s be real-we know that’s not how things will go. Because as a mom, we know to always be prepared for one of the kids needing something; we know we signed up to make sacrifices daily when we decided we wanted to be moms, but we also know that that doesn’t necessarily bother us. The love you have for your children is so immense I don’t think there’s any greater love, and as a mom all we want in life is to make our kids happy and to help them grow into kind, good humans.
So this Mother’s Day, thank a mom. Seriously, any mom: your mom, your grand mom, your neighbor mom, your coworker mom, just thank them. For being the people who make our world go round. Happy Mother’s Day to all the kick-ass Moms I know…and thank you!
