This weekend we did what most American families do in the fall-we went to the apple orchard. Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, and we’ve been going to the apple orchard for as long as I can remember. It’s especially fun heading to the orchard with kids!
We have this orchard by our house, Fifer’s Orchard, if you are close to this area. It is fantastic, especially in the fall. Tractor rides, orchard games, corn maze, ice cream, apple cider donuts, music- they have so much!
I was anticipating bringing the three kids by myself this year, and not entirely looking forward to it if I’m being honest. My husband has been working a lot since he started his second job; working one job every weekday and his other job on the weekends. So when he decided to come with us to the orchard-I was excited!
I love our family time when we get it. We had a lot of fun; lots of laughs. The kids loved playing all the games with Daddy, and the weather couldn’t have been better. It was a great time!
Even though we got tons of apples, there never seems to be enough when we start baking and eating. We made applesauce, apple pie, apple turnovers, and we ate (maybe too many) apples. My baking partner kept sneaking in apples as she was “helping”.
To be fair she did practically make the apple pie herself! Future baker in the family!
I usually make my own pie crust, but this weekend I used a pre-made crust. My favorite apple pie recipe is so, so simple and tastes so, so good. Check it out here. My applesauce recipe is also ridiculously easy, and makes the house smell so good! Take a peek at the recipe here.
Normally I also make cinnamon apple fritter bread, but we opted for apple turnovers this year per my husband’s request. Another super easy recipe-found here.
It was a perfect fall weekend doing typical fall things. I need these types of weekends more often. I am so appreciative of family time now, and I love when we can all five get together and go do something! Happy fall!
