Mom Thoughts

Mommin’ Ain’t Easy

I am convinced that moms are superheroes without the cape; they probably gave their cape to one of their kids who was cold. Being a mom is a 24/7 job; it’s continuous with no breaks, no “holidays”. Please don’t get me wrong I love my kids more than anything, but there does come a point where you need sleep to survive. Or one second without a child clinging to you.

I am so used to having kids or babies attached to me at all hours of the day and night I don’t even know what it feels like to have a minute alone, let alone a day! I took my son to his karate class with all three kids and a dad stopped me and said being a mom is the most difficult job he knows; that whenever he had to “step in and assume the roles” of his wife, he struggled and didn’t know how she did it everyday.

Moms have the hardest jobs in the world, and it’s a job where the requirements are unending, there is no monetary benefit, but your reward comes with how you raise your children. It’s a fantastic ride but it is utterly exhausting.

I sit here typing this now in the middle of the night as my infant has suddenly refused to sleep by herself. I am exhausted from multiple nights of no sleep, doing this whole thing solo as my husband is out of town, and mentally and physically drained. But I will keep doing this job. Because I don’t have a choice. Because in the end I am the only one that my kids have, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to mess anything up for them.

So, to my fellow moms awake with babies or kids in the middle of the night, to my fellow moms who are pounding the pavement day in and day out working multiple jobs, to my fellow moms who are at their breaking point, keep going. Keep pushing. Keep being the amazing mom you are. I really do believe that while I feel like I may not survive the long days and nights, somehow this season will pass and I will recover. It won’t be easy-nothing in life is easy. But watching your kids grow through these seasons should give you a reason to smile. After all, they are growing into the little humans you are molding them to be.
